Women's Track Competes at Bison Opener


LEWISBURG, Pa.--The University of Pennsylvania women’s track team opened the 2006-07 indoor track and field season Saturday at the Bison Opener at Bucknell University. The Quakers’ Shaunee Morgan won the 400 meter dash and 13 other student-athletes placed in the top-six.

Morgan, a junior, finished the 400 with a time of 57.55. She finished in second place in the 200 with a time of 25.05. Last season at the Bison Opener, she won the race with a time of 26.04. This season she was edged by .04 seconds by Landria Buckley of Howard.

Morgan also ran the second leg of Penn’s third-place 4x400 meter relay team. Comprised of Jesse Carlin, Morgan, Pari Hashemi and Jessica Ehrlich, the team crossed the line at 3:55.05.

Carlin marked a second-place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:14.29. Caroline Pearsall took sixth in the same race with a time of 2:22.32.

Charlotte Lawson and Anna Aagenes finished one after another in the 1000m with 3:05.67 and 3:08.37 times and fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Jamie Liberti and Christina Morrison came in fourth and fifth in the one mile run and were timed at 5:02.69 and 5:03.48.

In the field events, Camille Richards placed second in her event, the triple jump with a distance of 11.56m. Crista McDonald and Yelizaveta Lozovatskaya tied for second in the pole vault when they both cleared 3.30m. Chelsea Townes cleared 1.60m in the high jump for third place. Kathryn Gevitz took sixth in the long jump and triple jump with 5.37m and 11.15m, respectively. Shani Boston measured 13.31m for sixth place in the shot put. Whitney Tagliavini was third in the long jump with 5.42m.

Penn returns to action, after the holiday break at the Army Invitational in West Point, N.Y. on Jan. 13.
