Women's Track Competes In Day One of Indoor Heps

HANOVER, N.H. - The University of Pennsylvania women's track & field team competed on the first day of the 2006 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships at Dartmouth on Saturday,qualifying three student-athletesfor Sunday's finals.

With five of 17 events complete, Penn is in seventh place with six points.

All three Penn qualifiers will compete in short-distance events. Shaunee Morgan won her heat and semifinal in the 200 with times of 25.69 andthen25.14 seconds to qualify for the final in that event, while Jesse Carlin turned in the fastest time of the day in the 400 (56.25) to lead the pack heading into Sunday's final. Christina Morrison also was the fastest in her event, finishing the 800 in 2:10.33.

Inchampionship action Saturday, Shani Boston tookthird placein the heptathlon with a 3,695-point performance, Catrina Chisholm placed seventh in the weight throw with a heave of 49-5, and Brittany Middlebrooks and Whitney Tagliavini finished seventh and ninth in the long jump with 17 8-1/4 and 17 6-1/4, respectively.
