Women's Track & Field Heading to New York City Friday

Meet Schedule

PHILADELPHIA - A winter storm is approaching the Northeast this weekend as the University of Pennsylvania women's track & field team approaches New York City for the Rider/Lafayette Invitational at the Armory on Friday night.

The meet is expected to be out of harms way and may add schools if meets are cancelled and teams need a place to compete. At this time, Penn and Columbia are the only Ivy League schools scheduled to compete. The night will get underway at 5 p.m. with several field events, while the track will see its first event at 5:25 p.m. with the 5,000 meters. The meet is set to conclude at 10:40 p.m.

Last week, the Quakers finished ninth at Penn State's Sykes and Sabock Challenge Cup on Saturday in State College, Pa. Junior Chelsea Delaney, who had already posted an ECAC time in the mile, hit that mark again as she broke five minutes in the event for the second straight week and finished eighth. Penn's pole vaulters continued to excel for yet another week. Senior Davielle Brown cleared 3.75 meters (12 feet, 3 1/2 inches) to place third and senior Jillian Hart was fifth with a clearance of 3.60 meters (11-09.75 ft.). Of the 30 competitors in the 60-meter hurdles, junior Gabby Piper was sixth overall at 8.76.

In Penn's last visit to the Armory, the Quakers finished fourth among 12 teams behind top three finishes from Annie Holland, Elyssa Gensib, Eliana Yankelev, Brown and Hart. Brown, Hart and Brooke Hamscher finished second, third and fourth, respectively in the pole vault. Brown nearly set the school record as she cleared 3.80 meters (12 feet 5 1/2 inches). That was just one centimeter shy of the school standard. Holland nearly matched a career-best in the high jump before finishing third at 1.66 meters (5 feet 5 1/4 inches). Gensib was one of just three competitors to break the 10-minute mark in the 3,000 meters and Yankelev was third in the 60-meter hurdles.

The Quakers have just one more weekend remaining before the 2013 Indoor Heptagonal Championships at Harvard's Gordon Track on Feb. 23-24.
