Women's Track & Field to ECAC's this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA - For those of the University of Pennsylvania women's track and field team that qualified, the Quakers will travel to compete in the ECAC Indoor Championships in Boston, Mass., March 3-4.

The postseason meet at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center will begin Saturday at 1:10 p.m. The final event of Day One is the 4x400-meter trials which are set to begin at 4:40 p.m. The final day of competition will then begin at 1 p.m., with the distance medley relay and run through 3:20 p.m., for the finals of the 4x800 and 4x400-meter relays. Last year at this event, then-sophomore Leslie Kovach broke a 19-year-old school record in the 5,000 meters. Kovach finished fourth in a time of 16:38.93 and had all five points for the Quakers as Penn finished 39th as a team.

Last week, sophomore Gabrielle Piper and senior Catherine Okoukoni earned All-Ivy honors for the Quakers at the Heptagonal Indoor Championships. Piper, who set the school record on two occasions at the meet, won the Heps title in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.48. Okoukoni finished as the Heps runner-up with a career-best effort in the triple jump of 12.45 meters (40 feet, 10 1/4 inches).
