WEST POINT, N.Y. The University of Pennsylvania women’s track team finished second at the Black Knight Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Gillis Field House. The Red and Blue won two individual events and a relay.
Sophomore Jesse Carlin won the 800, crossing the finish line in 2:18.14, while teammate Hayley Cusack was second with a time of 2:21.6. The Quakers other win came in the 1,000 where freshman Kinjal Parikh won the event in 3:00.3 and classmate Leah Brogan was second in 3:01.0. The 4x800 relay team won that event in a time of 9:33.3.
Pennhad five otherrunner-up finishes. In the mile, teammates Christina Morrison and Jamie Liberti both crossed the finish line in 5:03.9. Sophomore sprinter Shaunee Morgan took the runner-up shot in the 200 in 25.37,the 4x400 relay team was second with a time of 3:54.48, and freshman Whitney Tagliavini was second in the long jump (5.66m).
Also placing in the top-five in running events were junior Jeanette Curtis in the 55-meter hurdles (fifth in 7.89 seconds), senior Dana McCurdy in the 400 (fifth in 1:00.6) and Morgan in the 55-meter dash (fifth).
Seven Quakers finished in the top-five in the field events. Tagliavini led that group with her second-place showing in the long jump, but two other Quakers placed in that event -- sophomore Brittany Middlebrooks was fourth with a leap of 5.39 meters, andJerrie Kumalah was fifth with a jump of 5.34 meters. Collette DeBenedetto was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.12 meters. In the shot put, senior Charity Payne was third with a toss of 12.96 meters and junior Shani Boston was fifth with a throw of 12.74 meters.
Penn’s “B” team was fifth in the 4x400 relaywith a time of 4:04.58.
The University of Connecticut won the meet with 228 points, and Penn followed with 116 points. Host Army was third with 98 points, Binghamton was fourth with 54 points and Manhattan was fifth with 45.
Penn returns to action at the Ivy League vs. Big East Cup in New York City on Jan. 27.
