PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League has announced its weekly award winners in men's basketball, and University of Pennsylvania freshman guard Antonio Woods has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
This is the second time Woods has been so honored this season. He is one of four different Penn freshmen who have received Ivy League Rookie of the Week recognition, a conference record.
Woods was honored following his standout performance against No. 5 Villanova on Saturday. Playing in front of a sold-out Palestra, Woods responded with 18 points (a season/career high) including three three-pointers which tied his season/career best. He also had three rebounds and three assists, and shot 7-of-12 from the field. Earlier in the week, Woods scored seven points in Penn's 67-56 win at Niagara.
Penn is in action at The Palestra twice this week. On Wednesday, the Quakers host Monmouth at 8 p.m. in the second half of a doubleheader (following the Penn-Villanova women's game which tip off at 5:30 p.m.). On Saturday, Penn and Saint Joseph's will close out the Big 5 season at 7 p.m. That game has already been announced as a sellout.
