Wrestling Adds Seven in Class of 2019

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team will welcome seven wrestlers to campus this fall as members of the Class of 2019 in the first recruiting class under second-year head coach Alex Tirapelle.

Five of the incoming grapplers placed at their postseason tournaments during their careers, including heavyweight Tyler Hall who was runner-up at 220 pounds in New York this season.

Leadership is a key element of the incoming crop as all seven young men served as team captain for their high school squads.

“When I arrived on campus in August, I knew it would it would be important to find the right people for the class of 2019,” head coach Alex Tirapelle said. “While Penn Wrestling will always recruit high-achieving student-athletes, it was particularly important for us to find young men that were representative of the program's core values – integrity, passion, confidence, persistence, and commitment. I believe we have done exactly that, so I look forward to the contributions, on and off the mat, these individuals will make to the program moving forward.”

The Class of 2019 hails from four states – with three student-athletes representing New York, two from Pennsylvania and one each from New Jersey and Illinois.

The Quakers will return 21 wrestlers next season, including NCAA qualifiers C.J. Cobb, Casey Kent, Brooks Martino, Caleb Richardson and Lorenzo Thomas.
