Wrestling Continues Road Swing at Hofstra

PHIALDELPHIA - Penn continues its road swing with a trip to New York and a match with the Hofstra Pride on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Quakers ended a six-match losing streak to Hofstra with an 18-16 win in The Palestra last season. The Red and Blue, who entered the match unranked, upset the No. 21 Pride on the strength of wins in four of the five final matches. The biggest win of the dual came in the very first bout, however, as Cesar Grajales pinned Jeff Rotella with 10 seconds remaining in their 149-pount bout. Those bonus points were the difference in the team score at the end of the day, erasing the even split in bouts won.

Grajales, who hasn't wrestled since suffering an injury in the finals of the Southern Scuffle, is probable to return this weekend for Penn. His opponent will again be Rotella who has a 3-13 record this season - with all of those matches at 133 pounds. With a tough Ivy League and EIWA scheduled looming for Grajales, starting his final stretch of regular season competition with a solid performance is paramount.

At 165 pounds, No. 19 Gabriel Burak will line up opposite P.J. Gillespie. The two met earlier this season at the Southern Scuffle, with Burak recording a 3-1 decision to secure seventh place at the tournament. Gillespie was the 2009 CAA Rookie of the Year and an NCAA qualifier last season and leads the Hofstra probables in wins with a 24-9 record. Burak is on a five-match win streak dating back to his victory over Gillespie in December. Burak is on a bonus point run, with a major decision, a tech fall and a fall over those five wins. Burak's fall last weekend against Clarion was his team-high ninth of the season.
