Wrestling Finishes at Virginia Duals, Places Eighth

HAMPTON, Va. - Penn finished in eighth place at the Virginia Duals with a 2-3 record, including a 1-2 mark in Saturday's competition. On Saturday, the Quakers defeated Liberty, 35-9, before falling to Kent State and Navy to end up in eighth. Kent State took down the Quakers, 19-15, and Navy scored a 21-13 win.

Penn won eight of 10 matches against Liberty, highlighted by a pin fromTrey McLean at heavyweight. He scored the fall on Patrick Walker in 1:33.Cesar Grajaleswon via major decision, 13-2, over Zac McCray andThomas Shovlin also added a major decision with a 12-3 win over Andrew Wilson.

Rollie Peterkinstarted off the dual with Kent State with an 8-3 decision over Nicolas Bedelyon.Zack Shanamandefeated Obie Simpson at 165 pounds, 2-1, andTyler Blakelyadded a 4-0 decision over Brendan Barlow. Grajales won via injury default at 149.

Against Navy, Peterkin was pinned at 3:35 as Penn did not get off to a good start. The Quakers did tie the dual with wins fromBryan Ortenzio(133) andZack Kemmerer (141). Navy won the next three matches to take a lead it never gave up. Scott Giffinwon via major decision, 12-3 at 174. McLean capped a 2-0 day with 4-0 win over Tyler Mayer.
