Wrestling Heads to PSU's Nittany Lion Open

PHILADELPHIA - After a 2-1 performance at the Northeast Duals last weekend, the Penn wrestling team returns to individual tournament action this Sunday with several of its wrestlers competing in Penn State's Nittany Lion Open. The event will take place at Rec Hall on the PSU campus in State College, with wrestling scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.

The Quakers defeated Sacred Heart and Appalachian State last weekend at Hudson Valley CC, but fell to Michigan to complete the day. It was a successful day for Gabriel Burak and Scott Giffin, each of whom went 3-0 (including Burak's win over 19th-ranked Aaron Hynes of Michigan). Mark Rappo and Zack Kemmerer were also undefeated last weekend in Troy, opening with forfeit wins against Sacred Heart and then beating their opponents from ASU and Michigan.

Burak, Giffin and Kemmerer came up with their performances at Northeasts on the heels of weight-class wins at the Keystone Classic. Burak was also the 165-pound champion at the season-opening Binghamton Open, pulling off a tournament double that was matched by his younger brother, Micah Burak.
