Wrestling Heads to Virginia Duals

PHILADELPHIA – Penn travels to Hampton, Va. this weekend to compete in the 2008 Virginia Duals. The fourth-seeded Red and Blue will join 15 other teams in the National College bracket of the tournament. The tournament field is highlighted by the top seed, #3-ranked Oklahoma State. Two other ranked teams are in the top of the bracket - #17 Illinois (second seed in the tournament) and #23 Old Dominion (third seed). Rounding out the field are Rider, Duquesne, Virginia, Ohio, North Dakota State, Lock Haven, Oregon State, Virginia Tech, Kent State, Bucknell, Lehigh and Drexel.

All matches will be held at the Hampton Coliseum. The first matches start at 9 a.m. on Friday, with the Quakers meeting North Dakota State. A complete bracket can be found here.

In addition to the ranked teams competing at the Duals, thirty-three individually-ranked wrestlers will be in action. Included in these ranked competitors are two who are ranked number one in their weight class – 133-pounder Coleman Scott (Oklahoma State) and 157-pounder Mike Poeta (Illinois).

The Quakers are coming off a weekend in Arizona that saw the Red and Blue win dual matches against Army (25-9) and Grand Canyon (54-0) before falling to Arizona State (17-21). Peterkin continued his impressive season, winning all three of his matches, including a fall and two decisions over ranked opponents. Giffin, Grajales, R. Hitschler and Shanaman all won two matches.
