Wrestling Hosts Rider, Binghamton Saturday

PHILADELPHIA -The Penn wrestling team enters the full dual-meet portion of the 2009-10 season this weekend, hosting Rider and Binghamton for a pair of matches at The Palestra. The Quakers and Broncs will square off at noon, followed by Penn and Binghamton at 2 p.m.

The Quakers, who are coming off the Southern Scuffle last week, will put out most of its projected preseason lineup, with the only exception coming at 149 pounds where Cesar Grajales -- ranked ninth in this week's Intermat national poll -- will be unavailable after being injured last week at the Scuffle. He is expected to miss only this week. Troy Hernandez will wrestle at 149.

Penn's only other ranked wrestlers are Matt Dragon, who is 16th at 157 pounds after making his first appearance of the season last week at the Scuffle, and Gabe Burak who cracks the rankings at No. 20 in the 165-pound weight class. Scott Giffin, who was ranked for several weeks earlier this season but dropped out after missing the Scuffle due to illness, is expected to be back in the lineup for Saturday.

Binghamton will be led by Josh Patterson, who is ranked 16th at 184 pounds but did not wrestle in the Bearcats' last dual (Sunday at Buffalo) but competed at Midlands earlier in the week. Rider's only ranked wrestler is Tyler Smith, who is 20th at 197 pounds and will likely face off with Penn freshman Micah Burak.
