PHILADELPHIA - The Penn wrestling team, ranked 24th in the preseason Intermat national poll, gets the 2009-10 season underway this weekend at the WWSports.com/BU Open hosted by Binghamton University. The Sunday event starts at 9 a.m. at Binghamton's Events Center.

More than 20 schools and 300 wrestlers are slated to be in action on the day.

For the Quakers, under second-year head coach Rob Eiter, this season-opening event provides a great opportunity to get some younger guys experience and introduce them to college wrestling.

"This is a great preseason event for us to be a part of," said Eiter. "There figures to be some good competition for our guys, especially the younger guys. We have had a good preseason and our training has gone well, now it is time to put those efforts on the mats and see the results. This will help us get ready for next weekend's Keystone Classic."

Penn is scheduled to wrestle two people in several weight classes including 125 (Mark Rappo, Reid Oshiro), 133 (Zack Ellis, Bryan Ortenzio), 174 (Scott Giffin, Cory Beaver) and 184 (Harrison Cook, Thomas Shovlin). No fewer than three Quakers will compete at 165 pounds (Gabriel Burak, Tom Timothy, Michael Steltenkamp).

Penn will have one representative at 141 (Zack Kemmerer), 157 (T.J. Polacek), 197 (Micah Burak) and 285 (Tyler Blakely).

Following this weekend, Penn is home for the Keystone Classic on Sunday, Nov. 22.
