Wrestling Set to Host Virginia Tech

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania will kick off its dual-meet season Sunday afternoon at The Palestra, as Virginia Tech comes to town to face the Quakers. The meet will begin at 5 p.m.

This will be Penn’s only dual meet until late January. As part of the Penn Sports Network video package, video of Sunday's match will air live on PennAthletics.com.

Penn -- ranked 23rd in the latest national coaches’ poll -- has competed twice in the early season, first at the Brute/Binghamton Open and then last weekend when it hosted the Keystone Classic. The Quakers finished second in the Keystone, with Rollie Peterkin and Lior Zamir winning individual titles.

The success of the first two weeks has landed five Penn wrestlers in the latest national coaches poll, led by 165-pounder Zack Shanaman at No. 14. Zamir is 15th at 184; Peterkin has crashed the polls at 125, with the No. 16 spot; 2006 NCAA qualifier Cesar Grajales is 19th at 149; and Jeff Zannetti is in the No. 20 spot at 174. In addition, Peterkin was named the EIWA Wrestler of the Week after his win at the Keystone.

Zannetti figures to have one of the most interesting matches Sunday, as he is paired with Eric Decker who is Virginia Tech’s only ranked wrestler (18th).
