PHILADELPHIA - After a pair of individual-based events to start the 2009-10 season -- the Binghamton Open and the Quakers' own Keystone Classic -- the Penn wrestling team dives into dual-meet action Saturday with the Journeymen/Asics Northeast Duals, which will take place at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y.
Penn is scheduled to face Michigan, Sacred Heart and Appalachian State as part of the Duals. Other teams scheduled to participate in the event include eighth-ranked Nebraska, No. 10 Central Michigan, and No. 18 Virginia.
"There is certainly a difference from the standpoint of intensity, in that you are there with your team and watching and cheering on your teammates," said head coach Rob Eiter. "Our first two events had a little bit of an individual feel to them, but Saturday's matches will bring our guys together outside of the practice room."
Eiter has been pleased by what he has seen so far, as the Quakers head into their first duals of 2009-10.
"I think we are actually ahead of where we thought we might be, both individually and from a technical standpoint," he said. "There were a lot of guys with very little varsity experience, but I have been happy with what I've seen so far. Just looking at a few of the guys, the Burak brothers have been a huge lift for us, Scott Giffin has stepped it up, and Zack Kemmerer is wrestling the way we knew he could wrestle. With some of the younger guys, we are seeing improvement every day in practice."
