PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team has been named a finalist for a pair of “Best of Brand” awards by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) in recognition of the team’s efforts to promote its team and the sport of wrestling via social media.
The Quakers are one of 12 finalists in the “Gold Standard” category which recognizes theprogram that best exhibits excellence through social media and marketing.According to the NWCA and Elite Level Sports Marketing (ELSM) which coordinate the selection of finalists, all 12 finalists “have shown innovation and creativity in their ability to promote themselves and help grow the sport of wrestling as a whole.Their content as well as their fan engagement has allowed these programs to stand out from the rest of the field.”
In addition to the “Gold Standard” nomination, the Red and Blue are up for the “Masterful Mission” award which recognizes the program that best markets the values and mantra of the team, as well as the school.According to the NWCA and ELSM, all 13 finalists have “separated themselves as the best at consistently marketing their brand to the public.”
Penn is one of four schools – joined by Missouri, North Carolina State, and Stanford – to be nominated in both categories.
