XC Finishes 11th and 17th at Paul Short

Bethlehem, Pa. – The University of Pennsylvania women and men cross country teams traveled to Lehigh to compete in the 40th Annual Paul Short Run. Nine Quakers competed in the Men's Gold 8K and places 11th, while ten competed in the Women's Gold 6K and places 17th.

After the open races, the men kicked off the day’s events with the Gold 8K at 11 a.m. 397 runners represented the 47 teams competing. Four Quakers finished the 8K in the top 125 runners, with one in the top 25.

Finishing first place for Penn, 25 overall, and with a score of 24 was sophomore Thomas Awad with a time of 24:33 and a pace of 4:57. Senior Conner Paez (25:08) was second to finish for the Red and Blue and 74 place overall, and third for the team and 80 overall was Brendan Smith(25:09). Also running for the Quakers was Nicholas Tuck, Brendan Shearn, Conor Nickel. John Trueman, Clark Shurtleff, and Sam Miner. The average time for the Penn men was 25:14.

After the men, the women set out on the course and Penn placed 17 out of 48 teams. Ten of the Red and Blue were a part of the 407 women runners in the Gold 6K. Finishing first for Penn and 45 overall was Cleo Whiting with a time of 21:22; second and third, respectively, for the Quakers were Madison Holleran (21:53) and Elyssa Gensib (21:55). The other legs that ran for Penn were Clarissa Whiting, Kersie Jhabvala, Ashley Montgomery, Gabriella Cuccia, Emily Quinn, Madison Connelly, and Chelsea Delaney. The Red and Blue ran an average time of 21:54.
