Gymnastics Takes Third at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team found more improvement on Saturday, notching a season-best on bars, but finished in third on the day in a tri-meet with Cornell at Penn State. Penn finished with a score of 192.200, posting at least a 192 for the fourth-straight meet.

BEAM
The Quakers started their afternoon on beam, and were led in the anchor position by junior captain Caroline Moore, who finished with a 9.700. Ally Podsednik was second on the team with a 9.650, while both Kyra Levi and Darcy Matsuda posted scores of 9.625. As a team, the Red and Blue finished with a score of 47.675.

FLOOR
Several Quakers were able to continue their hot performances on floor from a week ago, including three from Penn posting at least a 9.750. Matsuda led off with a 9.800, while Levi recorded a 9.700. The final two performances were noteworth for the Red and Blue, as freshman Darby Nelson tied her career-high with a 9.825 before Alex Hartke anchored the team with a 9.750. Altogether, Penn posted a 48.750, good for second on the day. Nelson's score was good for second individually at the meet.

VAULT
Next up was vault, where the Quakers saw improvement from a shaky start in strong performances in their final two positions. Moore posted a 9.650 in the five spot, while Podsednik anchored for a 9.775, finishing tied for second individually at the meet. 

BARS
It was a standout performance for the Red and Blue on bars, as Penn posted a season-best score of 48.725. Freshman Allison Frommer hit first, notching a career-high score of 9.775 followed by a 9.625 and 9.650 from Nelson and Tara Mills, respectively. Levi posted the best score of the afternoon, hitting a career-high tying 9.900 to finish in a tie for first individually at the meet, while ranking third in program history. Sophomore Alex Kothe rounded out the day with a 9.775 in the anchor position.

WHAT'S NEXT?
A highlight of the season awaits the Quakers next, as Penn will face off against its peers in the Ivy Classic on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m., hosted by Brown.
