Third Time's the Charm: Reeham Salah Wins Individual National Championship

WASHINGTON, D.C. - For the third straight year, University of Pennsylvania junior Reeham Salah advanced to the CSA Individual championship match. Her freshman year, she lost to Trinity's Kanzy El Defrawy. Last season, she fell to Georgina Kennedy from Harvard. Standing in her way of the title yet again on Sunday was Kennedy.

However, the third time was the charm for Salah as she became Penn's first national champion since Jessica DiMauro in 1996. Salah avenged her loss to Kennedy from a season ago by winning in four games 11-5,8-11,11-7,11-8.

"I'm extremely proud of Reeham," said head coach Jack Wyant. "She worked so hard to earn this title. I know she felt tremendous pressure to win this year—having finished second twice. I expect this achievement will give her the confidence to go on and win more titles."

Salah had been on a mission all season. The junior went an undefeated 13-0 in the regular season and added three more wins at the Howe Cup team championships moving her to 16-0 on the season. With her four wins in the Ramsay Cup, Salah finished the year with a perfect 20-0 record. Losing just two games all season, she won Ivy League Player of the Year for the second straight year, becoming the only player in program history to win the award in back-to-back years.

Also on the women's side, Lindsay Stanley won in the consolation of the Holleran East draw, mounting a comeback from two games to one down. The sophomore was behind 7-11, 11-5, 7-11 before winning the final two games 11-6, 11-5.

With the two wins and the All-American honors, the Penn women wrap up the 2018 season on a high note after finishing 8-8 overall and 3-4 in the Ivy.
